3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
RULES & REGULATIONS
1. TEAM REGISTRATION PROCESS: All team captains shall submit an official roster of players giving their first name, last names, and age. This roster, along with team fee, and captain phone number.
a) Player Restrictions: All players participating are bound by rosters. No player may play on more than one team during the tournament.
b) Player Eligibility: • Minimum Players: Teams must carry a minimum of 3 players on their roster. • Maximum Players: Teams may carry a maximum of 4 players on their roster.
c)Age & divisions:
-Men 40+ “Old man division”
-Men age 18-39 - any 18 year olds still in high school must play in youth division
-Women 18+ OR CoEd - number of sign ups will determine this division. CoEd must have 1 female per team.
-7th grade-12 grade: any school age players must have a parent and in season coach sign off to be eligible to play.
2. Protests: Protests are not allowed in the Minneapolis Recreation Basketball 3on3 League except concerning player eligibility. Questions about rule interpretations or judgment calls must be settled by the tournament supervisor. The supervisor's decision is final.

3. Schedule: Once registration is closed, expect to receive schedules via email or text by October 2nd.
4. Equipment: provided by Minneapolis Rec.
5. Scoreboard: Home team will be the higher seed
6. Court: The game is played at one goal. Half court boundaries are out of bounds.
7. Play Begins: Each possession will start by checking the ball. (Passing the ball to the defense and the defense passing it back). The offensive player that checks the ball must initiate the offensive position with a pass. Player must not dribble/shoot to begin the position.
8. Game Length: First team to 21 points(must win by 2) OR whichever team has the most points at the end of 25 minute period(must win by 2)
9. Continuous Clock: The clock will run continuously with the following exceptions: injuries, time outs, and free throws.
10. Time-outs: Two (2) 30-second time-outs per team in regulation game time, one (1) 30-second in overtime.
11. Overtime: If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, the game will go into overtime. The clock will be set to 3 minutes.. A coin toss will determine which team will have possession first. The first team to score 2 points will win the game.
12. Fouls: All fouls are team fouls. In case of overtime, all team fouls carry over.
13. On the 5th team foul, the player fouled will shoot one free throw. Free throws count as one (1) point. During a free throw attempt, all non-shooting players remain behind the three (3) point arc. After the free throw attempt, the opposing team gains possession at the top of the key.
14. Scoring: All made baskets inside the (3) point arc will count as 1 point. All made baskets behind the (3) point arc will count as 2 points.
15. Missed Shots: ALL defensive rebounds must be cleared outside the 3 point arc. This includes a shot that doesn’t touch the backboard or rim. If there is a live ball change of possession (turnover) then the ball does not need to be cleared outside the 3 point arc.
16. Inbounding the Ball: A dead ball going out of bounds will be put in play by “checking” the ball at the top of the key.
17. Stalling: No obvious stalling will be allowed and results in a turnover. The offensive team must look to score.
18. Conduct: All players, spectators and staff are expected to display good sportsmanship and conduct at all times. Examples of unsportsmanlike conduct include, but not limited to:
a) Use of profane language directed towards any staff member, official, player and/or spectator
b) Arguing, bickering, heckling or excessive display of emotion towards an official or staff
c) Making unnecessary gestures toward game participants, umpires or spectators
d) Throwing equipment; resorting to unnecessary roughness on the courts.
20. Personal Belongings: Mpls Rec will not be responsible for valuables, personal effects, or injuries to participants.
21. Supervision: NO KIDS WILL BE LEFT UNSUPERVISED!
